The Village
Kerames is located 40 km south of Rethymno. Built in 300m altitude it’s a picturesque village with strong traditional architecture. Particularly beautiful are the narrow paved streets that leads to the small square of the village where you can have a coffee in one of the local cafes. The village has a mini market and 3 taverns.
The Beaches
The 10 km coastline south of Akonize offers you the opportunity to chose among different kind of beaches, some with sand others with pebbles and rocks. Some off them mildly organized where you can find taverns, umbrellas and sunbeds. None of them are very crowded and some of them are completely deserted.
The closest to Akonize beaches are those of the coast line named “Keramiani gialia”, meaning kerames beach. In a distance of 5 to 10 minutes by car, are the beaches of Ligres, Katsouni, Pahia ammos, Glima, Podare, Agia Fotini, Pirgos, Gialopotama.
At the western side of Keramiani gialia are few more beaches. The most famous is Preveli palm beach 20 min driving from Akonize. More beaches are also at the eastern side of Keramiani gialia and the most famous are Triopetra and Agios Pavlos 10 and 20 min driving from akonize.
